WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO THIS WEEK
I met a lovely gentleman in the supermarket the other day who reminded me that I hadn’t written a new blog for a few weeks so here I am with another update - thank you Duncan!
Truth be told, John and I took a little holiday and ventured up north, then out west to breathe in highland air, walk on some of the most beautiful beaches we’ve seen and truly relaxed for what feels like a long time.
We started with a day at the Gleneagles Spa for hours of relaxation and massages which set us up perfectly for the rest of our week. We then spent a night in Glencoe, a popular tourist spot for it’s imposing mountains, impressive waterfalls and general Scottish gorgeousness. From there, we drove to Inveraray on Loch Fyne via insta-famous The Boat Shed on Lochgoil for lunch. If you haven’t been or seen them on Instagram, it’s a lovely little cafe with loch-views serving warming soups, toasties and sweet treats - lots of inspiration for our little Potting Shed Farm Shop & Cafe back home! Our hotel on Loch Fyne was really lovely with a spa too so we took advantage of that and after two night there we were ready for the highlight of the trip.
Neither of us had been to Mull before but it was somewhere we were keen to visit and it exceeded all expectations. We took the ferry from Oban to Craignure and drove down to the South of the island. We were incredibly lucky to arrive on a crystal clear, sunny evening and with every turn of the road, we were stopping to take in the incredible picture-postcard views. We stayed in a beautiful little cabin built by hand and with love by two of John’s musician friends and it was the perfect base to explore the island .. we cannot wait to go back!
Back home, and we’re straight back into the usual juggle of work and family! Everything is ticking along nicely here at Fossoway Stables and I’m busily trying to get the Potting Shed ready to open next Monday (16th September). Our gardener Lee has been in tidying up the weeds, I’ve been buying plates and cups and card readers, orders have been made for flowers, coffee, tea, pastries etc. It feels like it’s finally about to happen! We’re going to start small and open just mornings 8am-12noon, Monday - Friday, to start with to allow us to test the water and find out what people want us to be. Please do come and visit us if you’re in the area - I'd love to say hello.
We had a stand at a local community event, the Fossoway Gathering on Saturday which was a lovely way to meet more local families and connect with other organisations and interest groups. For me, it was great to see the enthusiasm people had for the Potting Shed opening and it gave me another little boost of energy to get this project over the finish line to opening (maybe rather than the finish line it’s really just the start!). The kids had a blast with their friends in the sun too so all in all, it was a lovely way to spend a Saturday!
Another little announcement we made at the event was that, as part of his October tour, John is going to do a little acoustic gig in the Crook of Devon Village Hall on 12th October at 7.30pm. He’s bringing with him singer-songwriter Sam Kelly (of Britain’s Got Talent fame), and multi-instrumentalist Toby Shaer. It’s exciting to be able to bring this caliber of music to the village and really hope it’s well supported. For anyone looking to come along, here’s the link to buy tickets … https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/john-mccusker-trio-tickets-1012778406477
Anyway, I’m away out to play cafes in my Potting Shed! Until next week ….
