WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO THIS WEEK

This week has been another busy one both in and out of work and we got started on Monday morning with a photoshoot and interview with The Courier about everything we’re doing here at Fossoway Stables.

John and I set up a PR & Communications firm, Everything & Nothing PR, earlier this year to have greater creative control over all of our business interests and bring all of our PR, marketing and management needs in-house. E&N is of course taking on other clients but it’s first job was to start with the businesses we already have. This feature in The Courier is the start of a specifically targeted brand-building campaign for Fossoway Stables to help us tell our story to a wider audience and let people know what we’re up to.

The photoshoot was with us all - Mum, Dad, myself and the kids, all over the estate from the house to the studio, the stables and the poly tunnel and kitchen garden. Kim, the photographer was great, put us all at ease and it turned out to be a lot of fun. I then had a chat with Poppy, the journalist and I felt like I talked non-stop for the entire hour! It’s a funny thing talking about yourself and a passion-project so close to your heart. You want, of course, to promote all the good work and encourage people to get involved, but at the same time, it feels incredibly self-indulgent to talk about yourself for an hour and not ask any questions back! I think I’m a particularly curious (nosy!) Person so in a lot of my interactions with other people, in a work setting or personal, I often find myself in the role of asking the questions. This was a little different for me.

It was, however a great success - the digital article was published on Thursday and it was in Saturday’s paper and the feedback from friends, family and followers has been so lovely. A great wee start to our brand-building campaign and a lovely win for Everything & Nothing too.

I feel so middle-aged when I bang on about the weather but in my job it really does have a massive impact on how the days, weeks and months go. This last week, nature seems to have remembered it’s Spring and the rain has finally taken a little rest. I can’t tell you the difference this has made to life here at Fossoway Stables. Most of the horses are now out overnight so that’s made for much happier horses and far less mucking out required in the stables. That, as well as our wonderful groom Iona returning from her well-deserved holidays, has then freed me back up to get on with all the other projects that have had to be put on hold for the last month or so. I’ve got a bit more balance back in my work life again, the ideas and energy have returned and that feels really great.

I’ve also managed to make a return to my morning walks which has such an incredible impact on me - I always come back feeling energised, motivated and with greater clarity about the things I’m unsure about. The lighter mornings, and not so many physical demands on the yard, means I can squeeze an hours walk before breakfast.

I’ve had loads of family time this week too and in particular, lots of incredible chats with the kids on their return from school camp. There’s so much going on in their lives and their wee heads so it’s good to feel really connected and close.

The week ahead is packed full of work and pleasure time again and I’m really looking forward to making progress in all departments. Hope you all have a really great week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PODCAST OF THE WEEK - I’m still very much on the business-themed podcasts at the moment and this week, the stand out episode for me was an older episode of Diary if a CEO with Codie Sanchez. I’d listened to this at the time it was released but have since followed her on instagram and wanted to re-listen. She’s an incredibly engaging speaker and compelling story-teller with lots of practical tips that I plan to put into action so well worth a listen if business building is something that interests you.

WHAT I’M READING RIGHT NOW - I’m still reading ‘Key Person of Influence’ by Daniel Priestley having not made a lot of time for personal reading this week. I’ve read far more pages of Callan’s book “Gone” by Michael Grant this week than my own! I’ll get this one finished this week then move onto another book in the pile at the side of my bed!

WHAT I’VE BEEN WATCHING  - Again, I’ve not really watched much this week but I did start re-watching ‘Dream Home Makeover’ on Netflix when I was in the bath the other day. I love a home makeover show and I really love their style so that’s always fun and inspiring. I kind of feel though, regrettably, these shows are much like cooking ones for me … I’m always inspired to try something they’ve created but by the next day, I’ve forgotten and it never gets done. Fun and entertaining though.
