TIME TO SPRING BACK INTO LIFE
Springtime is the season of renewal, when nature awakens from the hush of winter in a burst of colour and life. Blossom and birdsong and lighter evenings inspire us to come alive, grow, and feel hopeful for the promise of warmth and abundance. We’re springing back to life.
Like everyone else I’m sure, the blue skies and sunny days have given us a much needed boost of energy and motivation for all the work that lies ahead of us in order to ‘make real’ the dreams we have for 2025 here at Fossoway Stables.
We’ve been in ‘Spring Clean’ mode; sorting and clearing and filling skips in order to literally and figuratively embody ‘out with the old and in with the new’. In a similar vein, we’ve been recruiting for FossoPLAY which is an opportunity to bring new energy into the team, and planning the re-opening of The Potting Shed which is exciting. I’ve launched a new weekly vlog series charting life here at Fossoway Stables and beyond (I’ll insert the links to the first 3 episodes below if you fancy a watch), John has launched his first ever ‘Fiddle Weekend’ here at Fossoway which includes workshops, a masterclass, a live podcast recording, a session and more, and we’ve been liaising with a planning consultant around developments for the future which feels like the start of getting (an albeit very slow-moving) ball rolling. Things are happening and that feels really great.
The newness continues in the stable block and we’ve got a new horse on the yard … well, a returning horse Jess, and Cora has very kindly been offered the ride on her by her owner Sarah who’s recovering from an injury. It’s kind of come out of the blue, Cora’s newly re-found interest in horses but so lovely to see her excited about something and be able to make that possible for her. Seeing her get back into horses has inspired me to bring my own horse, Pullman back into work so that I can ride out with her. I definitely don’t need anything else to add to my daily to do list at the moment but with the longer days, I figure I can find the time for this!
Alongside all the novelty and excitement of the season, are the daily jobs that continue to need done. Feeding, checking, fixing, tidying, mowing, sowing and weeding are some of the eternal tasks that keep us very much grounded in stewardship and purpose. Although we’re overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of the to do list sometimes, we’re also incredibly thankful for it’s insistence that we must always be paying very close attention to and tending to the needs of this gorgeous pocket of land that we’ve been entrusted to protect.
John has been on tour for the whole of March but I took a weekend to go visit him in London which happily coincided with the start of the lovely sunny weather. It had been a wee while since I’d felt the sun on my face and not had to wrap up in ALL the layers so we took full advantage and went walking along the Thames and into some different parts of London for me. We wandered in and out of shops and browsed the offerings of the stalls in the street market.
There’s something really exciting and inspiring about London. It’s maybe all the people-watching that you can only do in the big city; wondering what everyone’s stories are, what their lives look like, how their Saturday’s pan out. Purely based on how a stranger is dressed in a way that evokes ‘effortlessly chic’ I imagine they have an outrageously exciting, creative job where they collaborate with equally as coolly-dressed people. Their weekends are filled with their friend’s exhibition openings and book launches or perhaps they simply pop out to the organic city farm shop on the corner of their street to collect delicious treats for the casual dinner party they’re hosting in their terraced town house that evening. That is, of course, quite different from my own life here at home in Perthshire, a life which I sincerely love, but I really hope my fantasy for the cool London-based strangers is real for them.
Until next month …
